DESIGNER STATEMENT

I am an artist-designer. For years I used to think that my inability to commit to a single field was a weakness, but becoming a practicing professional has made me realize that my strengths lie in being a multi-disciplined creative. What inspires me is beauty and I don’t only mean aesthetics. Beauty is functionality, its strength of concept, its truly understanding and connecting with your audience. Good design is beauty.

THESIS
SIDEWALK MEDITATION

Sidewalk Meditation is a reminder to take a few minutes out of your day to practice relaxin gmentally.

We are very accustomed to taking care of ourselves physically, but practicing mental wellness is often missing from our daily routine.

Temporary stencils serv eas a point of focus, helping to guide the user through a walking meditation. The exercise itself is a combination of an ancient Buddhist practice with a more modern approach to meditation.

I believe the stigma surrounding mental health comes from the lack of exposure and knowledge associated with the topic. The experience offered by my design encourages the user to participate in a therapeutic exercise and to do so publicly. True empathy is developed through experience.

My goal is to encourage mental relaxation and to remind people that every step made towards mental wellness makes a difference.
